Troubleshooting
The doctor
The doctor checks the panel's own settings and says what to fix:
cd /srv/panel/current && sudo -u whitesmoke-panel php8.5 artisan smp:doctor
"All checks passed." means the panel is set up right. It checks the panel only, not SSH or your sites.
Install messages
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| "this needs Ubuntu 26.04" | Install on a fresh Ubuntu 26.04 server. |
| "run this as root (sudo)" | Run the command with sudo. |
| "Whitesmoke SMP is already installed. Use: sudo smp-update" | It's installed; see Updating. |
| "… already installed here, but not finished, or from before 0.3.0" | Finish it as in If the install stopped halfway. |
| "Accept the licence agreement … with --accept-eula" | Add --accept-eula to the command. |
| "the panel's certificate could not be issued" | The panel's domain doesn't point to this server yet, or port 80 is closed. Check the DNS record and the firewall, then finish as in If the install stopped halfway. |
| "the panel does not answer on https://… after 20 seconds" | Check that port 443 is open, then finish as in If the install stopped halfway. |
| "The release list has expired", or a signature that doesn't verify | See Updating. |
| "This server's clock looks wrong" | Fix the date and time (timedatectl), then try again. |
If an install stops, fix the cause and finish it as in If the install stopped halfway: each step checks what's already done.
The panel says the licence isn't registered
sudo -u whitesmoke-panel php8.5 /srv/panel/current/artisan smp:license register
The server must be able to reach the internet.
Forgot your password
"Forgot password?" is off until the server can send e-mail. Set a new password on the server:
sudo -u whitesmoke-panel php8.5 /srv/panel/current/artisan smp:admin
